Iced tea and loose leaf concept tea brand created to bring awareness to the harm that forest fires bring to us and other wildlife. With every purchase of a tea, a portion of it will go directly to the non-profit, Wildfire Relief Fund (California Community Foundation). This product cares deeply about nature and it can be seen through it’s design. The bottles and tea containers are both glass to be the more environment friendly.
Pocket Bringhurst is a reaction piece to the well known typography book, The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst. This booklet was designed pocket sized to be an accessible and reliable resource on Bringhurst’s tips and tricks. Each chapter was summarized to its main components, since the book is quite large. Then I typeset the entire 40 page book with caution and attention to detail. I tried to stick to the traditional methods when it came to the overall design.
TuTravel is an app meant to make planning your travels easier. Having multiple tabs open when booking a trip will be a thing of the past because our app allows users to search and book all in one place. From flights, to lodging, to all of the transportation in between, we provide the cheapest and most convenient options.
This is a miniature version of Ninth Letter, a literary journal that gets nationally published from the University of Illinois. It was done in collaboration with Stefy Loret De Mola. We had to work with other designers to consider how the function and design of the book could embody the writing content inside of it. We concluded that nostalgia and memory would be the underlying theme. We incorporated film photography, old receipts or souvenirs, and sketches to illicit longing for the past.
Chirp is an app meant to interact with nature. Hopefully it can make users more aware of what is living among them. For instance, when someone hears an animal or insect noise that is unknown them, all they have to do is hold down the button on the main page and wait. It will then search a database and match the recorded sound with an actual animal. The app has other features such as; an animal of the day page and a page to explore where recent “chirps” have been found around the world.
Laid out here are a few of the graphics I have made for The Daily Illini, an award-winning independent student run newspaper at the University of Illinois. Collaboration between the writers and the designers are needed to produce a cohesive and polished end product for it’s article.
The Solitude Project is a participatory seven day challenge to try and get people away from their phones. My critical thinking and research lead me to believe that we no longer have, or see the need to have, solitary moments anymore because of our phones. This alone time is needed to recharge and restore the body and mind. Hopefully this project can educate and encourage users on how to be in solitude productively with this kit, which includes a canvas bag, a sketchbook, a camera, and a Cd.
A sketchbook would allow someone to reflect on goals, dreams, and aspirations. Success can come from understanding who you are and what you want out of life. For the length of the project this camera will be able to log what visually stands out or excites you when you are alone. This is a way to connect more with the world around you. On this CD are multiple guided meditations and soothing musical options, to either help you think or not think at all. It is meant to be an easy resource during some of your solitary moments, and to hopefully help connect you more with yourself.
Pieces of work from projects big and small, ranging from print to digital.
Here are some of my more hands on projects and sketches. I think it is important to step away from your computer once and awhile and see what you can create. These pieces were made either by the relief process in printmaking, pastels, or colored pencils.
This project is a reusable water bottle that helps the environment by incentivizing the reduction of plastic water bottle usage. The bottle is meant to track the owner’s intake of water and calculate how many plastic bottles were saved in the process, all data can be found on the app. Users can compete with friends for a great cause because every bottle saved 10 cents will be donated to the organization, Plastic Oceans.
Made in collaboration with Abigail Kumar and Sebastien Johnson.
